Saturday, August 24 The Village at Shirlington will be hosting the Sixth Annual Wags N Whiskers Event. The family- and pet-friendly event will feature over 50 exhibitors, including onsite adoptions! The event will also host $5 pet portraits and live music, as well as face painting and balloon art for children.
Besides the many exhibitors and boutiques, the event will also feature a number of animal-related charities and rescue services including:
Animal Welfare League of Arlington, which runs a shelter for needy animals staffed by over 300 volunteers;
Caring Hearts Rescue, which rescues and fosters small breed dogs awaiting “forever homes”;
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization working to help stray cats and dogs and those from high-kill shelters find permanent homes;
King Street Cats, a free-roaming cat orphanage and Alexandria’s only cat-only orphanage;
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, which rescues dogs that have been abandoned or from high-kill shelters;
Operation Paws for Homes, which takes in dogs from rural South and North Carolina shelters as well as shelters in the local area and hosts them with foster families while awaiting “forever homes”;
Reach Out Rescue and Resources, which focuses on finding homes for hounds, senior and black dogs that don’t get adopted from regular shelters;
and Virginia German Shepherd Rescue, a rescue non-profit dedicated to German Shepherds.
New non-profits in attendance include Arlington County Department of Environmental Services, K-9 Life Savers and Pet Loss Professionals Alliance.
Bring your family (kids, pets and all) down to The Village at Shirlington on August 24 and enjoy entertainment and shopping with other pet families. And while you’re there, support or volunteer with a local non-profit.
If you’re in the market for a furry new family member, rescued animals looking for homes will be available for adoption onsite.
