Miss A Columnist

Mallory Frantz is the Design Editor for Miss A. She is a recent graduate of University of Redlands in Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in Art History. She was born and raised as a Colorado native, and her love for Denver brought her back to the Mile High city. She recently started a blog called Split Peas and Lavender, which explores style, design, and Denver’s culture. She loves to explore local restaurants through the eyes of a vegetarian eater, and is inspired by designers like Jonathan Adler to create similar yet more affordable looks. Mallory has been fortunate enough to travel many places. Most recently, she visited Swaziland, Africa for a service trip that involved farming and aiding the fight against HIV/AIDS. Although she loves to travel, her favorite place is Colorado where she is able to enjoy the outdoors and her urban lifestyle. When she isn’t writing, she is creating new vegetarian recipes, working on her passion for photography, and conducting DIY projects around her home.

If you are interested in “saving the man you love, or at least the one you like,” mark your calendars for Tuesday September 17, 2013 as it marks this year’s Save the Males main event. Save the Males is a women’s group that works to support the prostate cancer research done at the University of Colorado Hospital. The founder, Sharon Magness Blake, launched Save the Males in order to bring about awareness similar to that of breast cancer. Her inspiration spawned from the shocking statistic that 1 in 6 males will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Her passion has made this event a growing venture which will most definitely be a memorable event.

Prior to the main event, Mariel boutique in Cherry Creek hosted the Save the Males Kick Off Party. The event was exclusively for women, giving them the opportunity to reserve tables and tickets for this year’s main event. Attendees were also able to meet Co-chairs Sue Goss and Gail Johnson, as well as Sharon Magness Blake. The Mariel boutique provided the perfect “girls night out”-type atmosphere. Mariel carries an array of styles that are “fit to flatter” any and every woman. The owner, Denise Snyder, hand picks every stylish item in the store and guarantees a unique style for every shopper, limiting her selection of each item to only three or less. Snyder first got involved with Save the Males by donating purses to the cause. For this year’s event, however, she donated 10 percent of all purchases made that night.

This year’s event will be held at the Ritz Carlton, Denver for the first time, so make sure to reserve your tickets soon!
