Hot Lava Obstacle Course In Austin

When I first heard about this new obstacle course opening in north Austin I just had those memories of being about 7 years old and playing in the pit with my little sister after practicing moves on the low bar. The new Hot Lava Obstacle Course couldn’t be a cooler spot to let your inner kid run free, and also really get quite the surprise workout in!

Husband and wife team, Ben and Kate Broussard, opened the obstacle course in mid-June. It’s the perfect spot to train for some of the more unique races Austinites love so dearly (think Warrior Dash and Zombie Run), Hot Lava offers over a dozen different pieces of equipment in a course made for an afternoon or evening of fun.

Options include trying to stay afloat amongst foam pieces in the ‘Lava Pit,’ two different slack lines at various height options, quad steps, an open gymnastics floor space with spring floors (!!) for practicing flips, tumbling, parkour or more, and gymnastics rings. The open, 2,000 square foot space is decorated in bright colors (think reds and blues) to keep the energy up and create a playful vibe.

I got quite a workout in trying all of the equipment and moving from play space to play space. But, as opposed to just reading a magazine on a stationary bike or counting down the miles on a treadmill, Hot Lava is anything but getting in a dreaded workout; I simply love the fun factor that is actually a fantastic heart-racing workout for guests.  My personal favorite activity had to be the slack line, and I simply can’t wait to go back and get in a good workout, practice my balance and improve my skills at Hot Lava!
