Miss A Columnist

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, moved to Nashville as a member of Vanderbilt University's class of 2015. There, she is the assistant editor of Vanderbilt HerCampus, an online magazine for college girls, as well as a writer for the sports section of the Vanderbilt Hustler. She recently became an initiated sister of Kappa Delta sorority and looks forward to getting involved in more organizations, like an a capella group or a club sport, during her college career. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Bread & Co.), great books (The Bungalow by Sarah Jio is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.

The NotWedding Comes To Nashville

The first wedding I ever attended was in my hometown of Vero Beach, Fla. a few years ago, and it was absolutely perfect- except for the dessert. My cousin, the bride, had decided to go for cupcakes with a cake topper instead of a traditional cake and, while they tasted awesome, they looked almost plastic. Her unfortunate cupcake tower didn’t take anything away from the wedding, but I’m sure if my cousin could go back and do it all over again, she would change those dang cupcakes.

The NotWedding was created especially for future brides to eliminate the likelihood of wedding day disasters. It takes the concept of a bridal show and turns it on its head, providing attendees with a real ceremony and a reception complete with dancing, wedding cake and live music. Guests are able to see what flowers from a particular vendor might actually look like at their weddings, which takes a lot of the stress out of planning for the brides-to-be in attendance.

The idea for the NotWedding was thought up in 2008 by Callie Murray, a wedding photographer looking for a way to build her new business. But she wanted to do more than just grow her name with her idea- she also wanted to inspire couples and encourage solid marriages, because after all, what is a wedding without a marriage? She rallied her friends in the wedding industry, and together they created the first NotWedding in Atlanta, where it is has become an annual event. Since then, the NotWedding has expanded to cities all over America, from Orlando to San Diego.

Sponsored by Nashville Lifestyles Weddings, the Nashville NotWedding is going to be one of the events of the summer. Just take a peek at these Save the Date photos- if these are any indication of how the actual event will go, I am extremely excited.

Essentially, the NotWedding is your “Wedding of My Dreams” Pinterest board come to life. And if you’re a bride-to-be, this is one event you don’t want to miss!
