It’s summer and the stores are filled with tons of cute, sometimes impractical, clothes for moms. Here are some summer style tips for fashionable moms. Clothing that is cute, comfortable and clothes you can run around in!
Maxi Dresses: Easy to throw on and have lots of style, can be dressed up or down. Perfect for Summer nights with a cute jean jacket. I love this knit racerback maxi dress from Nordstroms. It comes in four great colors for summer and, with a bit of jewelry, it can be dressed up. ($52)
Colored ankle skinny jeans: Blues, purples, pinks any color you like. Take a page out of Jessica Alba’s style book and throw them on with a cute t-shirt and scarf. Totally stylish and totally wearable with babies in tow. Flats, sandals or wedges and you’ll look great! I love my Gap legging skimmer jeans in blue (on sale, prices vary). You can find them almost anywhere; be bold and get some color into your wardrobe this summer with ankle skinny jeans.
Cami print dress: Floral, leopard, something fun and colorful for summer nights. I love this ASOS dress by Mango ($45.24). Throw it on with some booties or wedges, you can even accessorize it with a think weaved brown belt like this one.
Lightweight graphic tees and tanks: Junk Food Clothing makes great tees and tanks. Loose fitting, perfect for running around in and not feeling self-conscious about it being too short or revealing. I love Junk Food tees and tanks because you can add a little of your personality to your outfit. You may be a mom, but it doesn’t mean you can’t wear a Batman, Madonna or Kiss T-shirt.
Denim shorts: I love these white cut-off denim shorts from Old Navy. Pair it with a cute blouse, a belt and some wedges and you’ve got a casual, yet put together outfit. Great for a lunch date or shopping trip. ($12.50, on sale now)
For a special night out: I love embroidered/crochet/textured shorts and an embellished tank with wedges. So sexy and sophisticated for the mom who wants to add a little flare to her life without feeling like she’s trying too hard. I love these Bar III shorts from Macy’s with this tank tucked into the shorts. Gives you a clean and crisp look for a date night. Add on some gold hoops and you’ve got a great outfit!
Mix and Match bikinis: I was totally against this trend! I just kept seeing everyone wearing the same mix and match bikinis. However recently, after a couple vacations, I realized the benefit of having more than one bikini bottom to go with a top or two; that way you’re not walking around all day in a wet bikini from the day before and you have the chance to update your look. I know lots of people get their bikinis from Victoria’s Secret, Target has great options too, but I am a Vix girl all the way. I have been on two vacations in the past couple of months and my Vix bikinis got me through them, even with a little one to chase after!
Wedges: I love flats and sandals, but sometimes you want to have some height and accentuate your legs. Wedges are comfortable yet stylish, I wouldn’t recommend wearing them for an all day event with a little one, but a few hours out or a date night is the perfect time to wear some wedges. I love these Nine West wedges. ($79.99, on sale now)
Scarf: Like I mentioned above, a scarf is the perfect accessory for a busy and stylish mom. You can tie your hair in a pony tail or in a bun and wrap a scarf around your neck and you instantly have a polished look. I love this stripe-border scarf from the gap. It comes in four great colors. ($29.95)
Hat: Summer is the perfect time to wear a hat! You definitely need to keep your face protected from the hot sun. Especially when you’re at the park, beaches and pools all day with the little ones. I have been wearing a wide brimmed fedora from Forever 21 so far all Summer and it is perfect! A great hat is another accessory perfect for the stylish mom this Summer. This straw fedora from Forever 21 is so adorable. Throwing on a hat doesn’t hurt when you’re having a bad hair day! ($12.80)
The important thing is that when you dress as a mom, you dress in the things that make you feel happy, comfortable and beautiful. It doesn’t matter if you’re just going to the supermarket or taking the kids to the park, if you feel like dressing up a little, do it for yourself and for your well being. You don’t have to feel sloppy and grungy just because you are a mother. Getting dressed up or just getting dressed at all will definitely boost your mood and your confidence. I hope these tips help you get some great summer styles for your wardrobe.
