Once again, it’s time for San Fermin; however, we recommend trying it New Orleans style. First, substitute Louisiana for Spain. (Hey, our paella is a worthy challenger!) Second, forget the bulls, and get ready for a pack of horn wearing, bat wielding roller derby ladies. Top it off with a festive costume and the drink of your choice, and the memories will be unforgettable.
For its seventh year, San Fermin in Nueva Orleans (SFNO) will feature “not to be missed events” from Thursday, July 11, through Sunday, July 14. However, the highlight will be El Encierro (Running of the Bulls) on the morning of Saturday, July 13, at 7:15a.m. Centered at the CBD’s The Sugar Mill, participants (clad in their best red and white) will run a gauntlet of Big Easy Rollergirls, as well as members of some of the nation’s other leading roller derby leagues.
As The Sugar Mill is next door to our famed French Quarter, as well as many of NOLA’s leading bars and restaurants, attendees should plan for a full day of fun, which will last well past the official run. Amongst other options, attendees can enjoy the planned post-party at 8:15a.m., which will feature Vivaz, a former Big Easy Award nominee for Best Latin Band. During the evening, the Fiesta de Pantalones at Maison on Frenchman Street should not be missed.
If you would like to enjoy all of the week’s events, check out full details for the Marques de Caceres Wine Dinner (Thursday at the Bourbon Orleans), El Txupinazo at The Sugar Mill (Friday), and El Pobre de Mi (Sunday at Maison).
Get ready to run!
