Miss A Columnist

I am a WHO DAT LOUISIANA transplant dwelling in the Big D and I can be described as a vogue-a-holic by default, a socialite by nature, and a shoe-preneur by trade. I delight in the unexpected, have a tongue in cheek approach to tradition, never wear just anything, miscellaneous is my favorite category, and lastly – am spoiled by all things fabulous and swanky. I absolutely love the Big D because there is always a wide array of people, places, and things to experience.

Miss A has a presence in 21 U.S. markets, and is the first and leading media outlet covering the intersection of charity and life. With a team of 30 editors and hundreds of writers, we write about charity meeting a part of life – fashion, beauty, sports & fitness, home, food, kids, men, entertainment, business, technology, travel, and education. We shine a spotlight on the best nonprofits, cause marketing products and services, corporate philanthropy and philanthropic people to inspire others to give as they live. Since so much of the Arts are supported by philanthropy, we love covering the arts – performing arts, music, dance, theatre and film.

Founded in 2008 by Andrea Rodgers who has a strong philanthropic track record of her own in Washington, DC, Miss A believes in the positive power of volunteering and charity — not only to benefit those less fortunate, but to improve the individual, business or brand that gives their time, talent and treasure to a cause. Our mission is to shine a spotlight on the best charity events, cause marketing campaigns, philanthropic people, businesses and brands to inspire others to get involved.

With this said, if you have an event you would love for me to cover on Miss A, please contact me at pamreneepr@yahoo.com.

Oprah Winfrey is coming to the Big D next month to record an episode of her series Oprah’s Lifeclass before a live audience. Oprah’s Lifeclass is a richly interactive experience where millions of people around the world participate in inspiring conversations with Oprah on-air, online and via various social media outlets. For each class, Oprah is joined by a hand-picked expert(s), and together they interact with viewers to share principles and tools that can help people live more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

The Dallas-based episode will be the continuation a two-hour special on “fatherless sons and daddyless daughters” that first aired in May, to conclude in September with this Dallas taping.

Winfrey’s live taping will kick off the three-day MegaFest Christian festival, being organized by Dallas’ Bishop T.D. Jakes, leader of megachurch The Potter’s House.  He has appeared on Oprah’s Lifeclass before to discuss purposeful living and was also a guest on Winfrey’s show Oprah’s Next Chapter. The Potter’s House has 30,000 members, and a MegaFest spokesperson said they estimate about 50,000 attendees, making it the city’s largest convention of the year.

MegaFest takes place Aug. 29-31 at American Airlines Center and the Dallas Convention Center. Tickets for the three-day men’s and women’s conferences are $50 per person, while youth’s and children’s conference tickets are $20 per person. That price does not include admission to the Lifeclass taping.

Previous MegaFests have taken place in Atlanta and South Africa. This is its first year in Dallas with events scheduled at American Airlines Center and the Dallas Convention Center, to include four of Jakes Ministries’ smaller conferences aimed at men, women, teens and children.

Winfrey is the latest addition to the festival’s roster of celebrity guests. Televangelist Joel Osteen, another regular Winfrey guest, and his wife, Victoria, will headline the convention.
