Miss A Columnist

Brooklyn native Len Moon claims she's woman of many talents but a master of none, well not as yet. An event coordinator, writer, and mother of two beautiful boys, this Atlanta resident has a new found appreciation of the city and would love to share all of her finds with her readers. She chose writing as an escape from reality in which nobody could determine or limit her possibilities. "The ability to give opinions, events and entertainment in words is the ultimate challenge-but alike many other tough situations I've been in, I've found that nothing is as hard as it seems."

Summer 2013 Family-Friendly Activities In Atlanta

Summer is here, school is out and if you’re anything like me, you have little ones staring in your face looking for something fun to do. In a city as big as Atlanta, you’d think that everything is either too expensive, or far away. To my surprise I’ve found several activities, events and outings that are not only fairly inexpensive, but are perfect for families of all kinds.

The Center for Puppetry Arts has been Atlanta’s source for quality children’s entertainment for the past 33 years. This summer they are featuring several puppetry shows the first of which is Cat in the Hat, based on the book by Dr. Seuss. Your whole family will enjoy learning about the different puppets used, how the puppeteers actually perform the show and even learn about Jim Henson, one of the most famous puppeteers, in the Jim Henson Museum located on the main floor.

Storytime has been a time honored activity at many homes only reserved for the moment you tuck the kids in for bed. However, in the summer, when the regulated bedtime schedules can be relaxed a few more weeks, there’s a venue in Buckhead that offers storytime with a twist. Pottery Barn Kids in Lenox Square mall is hosting storytime this summer with PBS favorites Curious George and Cat in the Hat. Dive into this summer series with the kids while you can browse the season’s latest bedding trends.
