There’s a new rising star in town and her name is Erin Brady, the official Miss USA 2013! The all-American brunette, representing her home state of Connecticut, was crowned this past Sunday at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Brady was one of six semi-finalists joined by: Miss Texas, Miss South Carolina, Miss Illinois, Miss Alabama and Miss Utah. During the interview portion with the judges, Brady impressed the audience and viewers alike with a succinct and decisive opinion on DNA testing for criminal suspects. “I would agree with this,” she stated, “…if that’s one step closer to figuring out who has done it, I think we should absolutely do so.”
The pretty financial accountant from East Hampton attended Central Connecticut State University, where she majored in finance and criminal justice. Brady worked and went to school full-time noting that the struggles she faced while doing so helped shaped her into the woman she is today. She also has a passion for helping the children of alcoholics and substance abusers, having grown up in a family influenced by both. Besides advocating for kids affected by substance abuse, Brady will be promoting breast and ovarian cancer awareness, the Miss Universe Organization’s official cause. Her favorite charities, which she has supported in the past, include: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Susan G. Komen and Habitat for Humanity.
The beauty queen also happens to be very much in love! Brady and fiancé Tony Capasso were looking forward to a November 9 wedding date, but nuptials will likely have to be rescheduled—the Miss Universe pageant, which she is now set to compete, in will be taking place that very same day in Moscow!
Other highlights of the evening included light-hearted banter between co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Kevin Jonas, with the latter working double duty to join his brothers for onstage musical numbers. The Jonas Brothers treated viewers to performances of their new songs, “Pom Poms”, “First Time” and “Neon.”
The evening’s entertainment also included DJ Pauly D, commentary by stylist Jeannie Mai and of course an appearance by Donald Trump, owner of the Miss Universe Organization. Miss USA 2012 Nana Meriwether, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and Miss Teen USA 2012 Logan West were also in attendance.
