Miss A Columnist

Anda Bailey comes to Miss A from the heavy corporate world in an attempt to bring more art and creativity in her life. Born and raised in both Eastern and Western Europe, Anda refuses to abandon her 5’ heels in favor of the relaxed Southern California attire – her slight British accent and sense of style are among the only characteristics that still betray her foreign origins. While educated and trained a corporate lawyer, Anda has left the monstrous law firm days behind her and now focuses on finding and maintaining a healthy balance in her life. With a new love on her arm and two beautiful dogs named Mushu and Wally, she is set to conquer the world while creating and experiencing moments of simple joy and happiness. And by simple we mean planning a small and romantic wedding in Paris set to take place in just a few months. Yes, yes, you can take the girl out of Europe but you can’t take the Parisian nights away form the girl. When she’s not writing about love, life and rare finds in San Diego Anda writes The Tie Chatter http://lordwallington.wordpress.com, a blog about men’s fashion with an emphasis on custom neckwear. And so she embarks in the pursuit of love, marriage, fashion and art, and is making Miss A part of her journey.

On June 12, 2013 the beautiful La Valencia Hotel, known as The Pink Lady, was the host of Everything But The Dress, an event catering to San Diego’s newest brides to be. And The Pink Lady was indeed the perfect host with its beautiful courtyards, hand painted murals and exquisite Spanish mosaics.

The event was produced by two local businesses lead by two fearless business women: Michelle Martin, owner of M Bride Salon, a well established bridal boutique in La Jolla, and Bonnie Saldivar Jones, founder and driving force behind On Demand Lifestyle Staffing, a San Diego-based production company offering on-site luxury services, including beauty and massage. As the name clearly states, the event brought together a variety of amazing vendors catering to the wedding industry: fashion stylist and personal image consultant Mahjuba Levine, fashion designer Kevan Hall, interior designer Carly & Co., beauty hair, make up, nails, massage by On Demand Lifestyle Staffing, hair adornments by Rachel Larraine, custom neck wear for the gentlemen by Lord Wallington, jewelry by Juelerie, photography services by Xavier Bailey Photography, as well as scrumptious food, champagne cocktails and strolling serenade songstress Aja Lee Faasse. And may I just add that if you dream of a beach wedding you simply must look up Aja Lee – with her soulful ukulele and creamy vocals, her singing will transport you to the white sandy beaches of Hawaii in a blink of an eye. Just go to her website, listen to “He’s You” and let your mind go.

The turnout was great, not surprisingly mostly brides, but it was lovely to see the ladies show interest in the art of tying a bow tie for the benefit of men in their lives. It was quite touching!

All in all a great event, full of resources for those looking to plan their own dream wedding or for those wedding planners looking for new vendors! And just in case you wonder “Well, what about the dress?” I should tell you that the unassuming and funny Michelle Martin is the mother of all mothers when it comes to getting you into the right dress. She should be on every woman’s speed dial and I should know because she made some magic happen for me just a couple of months ago when I realized that I was five months away from my wedding and no wedding dress. I am making a mental note to come back to you with a full story on M Bride shortly.
