Located just off St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans, Il Posto offers a delicious, Italian-inspired menu in a congenial, cafe setting. In addition to fresh-brewed coffee and tea drinks, the selection features an array of baked goods, pressed panini sandwiches, salads, and charcuterie. Open since late 2007, owner and manager Madison Curry describes Il Posto as “a nice, simple, friendly place” to partake in a “casual meal, or glass of wine and some cheese” with friends.
On a quiet, predominantly residential stretch of Dryades Street, the cafe carries a definite neighborhood vibe, offering both indoor and backyard seating. “I love watching people walk over with their dogs or kids, or ride up on their bicycles,” shared Madison. This come-as-you-are rapport is palpable at Il Posto, as well as furthered by an approachable, enthusiastic staff. In describing the team, Madison continues, “We may not always remember a name, but we almost never forget how you take your coffee.”
Madison opened Il Posto following her return from a twelve-year stint in New York City. While there, to supplement her theatrical pursuits, she also ran a small cafe in Manhattan for over a decade. Through the process, she learned a great deal about both the restaurant business and how to build a truly attractive dining experience.
Reflecting this love of theatre, Il Posto has served multiple times as a fundraiser venue for the Southern Rep, whose New Play Series features Madison as one of its writers. In addition, further support has been provided to the local acting and creative communities, as well as area schools, through catering and gift certificate donations.
In summing up the vibe of Il Posto, Madison describes it as both “warm and rustic”. It is this approachability and homey feel that no doubt attract not only the numerous regular visitors, but also new customers and tourists as well.
