Miss A Columnist

Amanda Ivarra is a graduate of Texas A&M University. After graduating with a degree in Health, she moved to Austin and started working for a national non-profit organization. She spent 5 years coordinating community events and programs. After leaving the organization, she started to focus on her creative pursuits. Currently, she is working on developing her own jewelry line. Writing has always been a hobby for Amanda. For most of her life, she’s kept journals. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to take her writing public and began blogging and guest blogging. The one thing this girl can’t live without is music. Not really one to sing or play an instrument, she just loves music. Perhaps, it’s the songwriting that she admires so much or a good beat that she can dance to. Whether she’s attending a concert with friends, hanging out with the guys watching sports, volunteering in the community, hiking or visiting the newest places in town, Amanda lives to enjoy life. But, nothing brings more joy to her than being able to make someone smile or laugh!

“There’s nothing that captures the spirit of Austin more than the Keep Austin Weird Festival,” shares Carol Young, a founding member of The Greencards. “We’re so pleased to be back in this fantastic city, have the opportunity to play the Festival and toast to our hometown of Austin—the Live Music Capital of the World!”

The four-piece band quickly gained acclaim for their Americana bluegrass sound. They went from originally performing in local bars to taking top spots on the Billboard Bluegass charts. They’ve also toured with artists such as Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.

The group is scheduled to perform for the more than 6,000 expected festival attendees later this month. The Keep Austin Weird Festival & 5K is a celebration of the city we all love so much, and you can’t celebrate Austin without live music. As always, the Festival gives musicians and fans alike a chance to truly experience the “Live Music Capital of the World.”

Celebrating the city’s slogan, “Keep Austin Weird,” the Festival includes one of the wackiest 5Ks ever.  Runners and walkers will embrace their creative side and show their appreciation for this great city by wearing crazy costumes and flooding the streets of downtown Austin. Registration for the Keep Austin Weird Festival & 5K is $47.50. This includes a 5K entry, festival pass and T-shirt. The Kids’ 5K registration is $20, which includes a festival pass and T-shirt.
