Recently, the CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch made a very crass statement about how his stores would no longer sell clothes larger than a size 10 since he didn’t want ugly people wearing his clothes. The backlash was intense, but one of the loudest protesters exclaimed her indignation with the phrase, “Fitch, please!” ELLEN DEGENERES, the actress, talk show personality and one of Covergirl‘s spokeswomen, is one Beauty who believes in the power of kindness and dance, which she displays regularly on her show. As one of the elite Covergirls, she represents such products as their Covergirl + Olay Concealer Balm, Pressed Powder and Rehab 2 in 1 Foundation and shows them off in the company of a giant smile that she seems to want to spread to the world.
To support even one charity is honorable, but this week’s Beauty is taking her charitable duties to a completely different level. An avid supporter of nearly 40 different charities, DeGeneres helps some big names such as Stand Up To Cancer, the Red Cross and Feeding America, for which she began the Small Change Campaign along with Ben Affleck in 2006 to start collecting loose change from all over the country, an amount that could reach billions. The Covergirl spokeswoman also works with Family Health International, an organization dedicated to bringing solutions to health problems people in low resource areas worldwide suffer with. The talk show host also supports the Susan G. Komen For The Cure, an organization trying to cure breast cancer at every stage and bring support to those suffering from it.
Although Ellen obviously has her hand in several different types of charity projects, it seems that a few causes in particular pull at her heart strings. Our Beauty of the week is an avid supporter of The Gentle Barn, a non-profit begun in 1999 which serves to protect all neglected and abused animals rescued from their awful situations. The talk show host also supports the largest animal protection non-profit, The Humane Society, an organization that fights tirelessly for animal rights and protection. The Humane Society rescues thousands of animals across the country from abusive, neglectful and fighting situations. The voice of Dory from Finding Nemo didn’t forget about sea creatures either; she also works with the Society for Animal Protective Legislation, which is to host a Rally for the Whales this Friday May 31 and works to end commercial whale and shark fishing.
As much as she cares for the welfare of animals, Ellen also cares for children at all stages, in all situations, particularly those who don’t have, or can’t find, their voice. It should be no surprise that the openly gay talk show host, who has been happily married to her wife Porsche De Rossi for several years, is an avid supporter of the It Gets Better Project, an organization dedicated to reaching out to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens to spread the message of hope for a better tomorrow. The talk show host also supports Project Cuddle, an organization that provides help to newborns who have been abandoned and reaches out to women who are considering abandonment with legal and safe alternatives.
It’s no wonder that Ellen loves to dance; with all the good she does, there’s no doubt that all of those good feelings come right back to her, and it shows even without her favorite Covergirl products. Still, the next time you’re prepping your own pretty face with the Concealer Balm or the 2 in 1 Foundation, enjoy the glow you get and the fact that the woman who represents them is spreading the good feeling glow to everyone. Come back next week to find out who else is showing off her beauty, inside and out!
