Meera Rajagopalan is the Austin Editor for Miss A. A proud Longhorn, Meera earned her journalism degree from UT. Some of her hobbies include event planning, writing and baking. She loves trying new recipes and experimenting with food. Her latest creation was Pistachio Fudge. A tech nerd at heart, Meera loves cool iPhone apps and geeking out with friends about social media trends. Aside from the tech stuff, Meera also enjoys discovering new fonts. There’s something about finding the perfect font to help enhance titles. Besides her hobbies, Meera loves free stuff. So far besides tons of samples, she’s won concert tickets, movie passes (compliments of Do512) and a cooking class.

ATX Television Festival 2013

As memories of staying up “late,” to catch TGIF, or getting up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons play through my head, it makes me that much more excited for the upcoming ATX Television Festival. With it  just around the corner, we wanted to take a moment and highlight some of the free events (with RSVP) that will happen during the weekend. Many of these events do require RSVPs and admittance will be given after ATX badge holders and day badge holders are admitted.

Girl Around Town & Anthropologie kick off ATX Television Festival with a celebration of Austin Style

Get ready for a stylish kick-off party to celebrate the beginning of the ATX Television Festival. Girl Around Town is celebrating Austin and the festival in their newest style guide, “The Best Of Austin: What to do, Where to go & What to wear.” Held at Anthropologie, this event will feature a night of shopping at the North Lamar flagship store, along with light bites and cocktails.

Boy Meets World Reunion & Screening

Get ready for some serious ’90s nostalgia. During this screening, audience members will get to relive the finale of “Boy Meets World,” and then enjoy a reunion conversation with creator Michael Jacobs and main cast and fan favorites! Prepare yourselves. Some of these cast favorites may include Ben Savage and Rider Strong. While this is a main ATX Television Festival event, non-badge holders can RSVP for a chance to get in if seating is available.

Friday Night Lights Outdoor Community Screening

“Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.” There’s something about Texas and football that just goes together. Between the tailgating, cheering and victory celebrations, football games just seem to be happy events (for the winning teams at least). Closing out Friday night, the Hotel San Jose will host a “Friday Night Lights” outdoor screening.

Hasbro Studios’ Saturday Morning Cartoon Breakfast

Saturday morning cartoons are here to stay! Children can enjoy their favorite shows at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel for this family-friendly free event.  Breakfast will be served as guests watch “My Little Pony,” “Littlest Pet Shop” and “Transformers: Rescue Bots” together. There may even be a surprise visit from a voice actor of one of their favorite characters!  Hasbro Studios be there and will provide giveaways to children. It’s OK and encouraged for kids, the young and young at heart to wear pajamas to this event.

Friday Night Lights: the Cast Diaries

Through the Friday night lights, viewers saw all the truths of real-life play out in the town of Dillon, Texas. This is an opportunity to relive those truths and moments captured on the small screen. Led by Executive Producer and Writer David Hudgins, guests are invited to watch scenes from different seasons of the beloved series, and then listen to as cast members relive stories and experiences on and off the field, bringing their characters to life one more time. While this is a main ATX Television Festival event, non-badge holders can RSVP for a chance to get in if seating is available.

AMC Screening of New Series: Low Winter Sun (premieres August 2013)

Murder. Deception. Revenge. Corruption. All these words play a part in AMC’s new series “Low Winter Sun”. This new scripted drama premieres in August on the network, but ATX Television Festival attendees will have the opportunity to see the pilot two full months before it debuts. The series will have ten one-hour episodes. Aside from seeing the pilot, cast members Mark Strong and Lennie James will be there, along with Chris Mundy, writer, executive producer and showrunner.

AMC Screening of Hell on Wheels With Cast Q&A

AMC will also be screening the “Hell on Wheels,” episode entitled “The Lord’s Day.” Cast member Anson Mount and John Wirth, writer, executive producer and showrunner, will be there for a Q&A. Apart from the Q&A, audience members may get a sneak peak of season 3.
