On Thursday, June 6, 2013, the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) will host its annual gala and after-party at the Central Park Zoo in celebration of the wonders of Southeast Asia. The evening will feature drinks, dining and dancing near the sea lion pool with up-close views of the zoo’s animals. A fun after-party will follow for the next generation of conservation supporters at 9 p.m. Music will be played by DJ Chelsea Leyland.

The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild places all over the world. They do so through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. This year’s gala will highlight WCS’s work to protect the wildlife and habitats throughout Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

WCS chair Board Ward Woods will be honored for his commitment to conservation. He has supported environmental and conservation programs across the globe, serving on the boards of The Nature Conservancy, The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Stanford University, where his contributions advanced the creation of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment.

The event will mark the first annual WCS gala for its new president and CEO, Dr. Cristián Samper.  Samper is a scientist and international authority on conservation biology and environmental policy. He came to the WCS after serving as director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

This will be an exciting night that is not to be missed for any animal loving New Yorker!
