Every year, the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region holds their largest and most well known fundraising event in the form of a black tie gala. The Salute to Service Gala is personal to all of us because the funds are used to strengthen programs for emergency services in our own local community. The large attendance of military, government and other local leaders will enjoy an inspiring evening over cocktails, dinner, a VIP reception, silent and live auction, and the “Stories of the American Red Cross” exhibit, which fundamentally depicts a vivid explanation of the American Red Cross.
The Lifetime of Service Award will be presented to General Raymond T. Odierno, Chief of Staff of the United States Army and wife Linda Odierno. Also among the honored for exceptionally contributing to their community are: Captain (Ret) Dawn Halfaker, Colonel Gregory Gadson, the Fisher Houses at Ft. Belvoir, Joint Base Andrews and Walter Reed Medical Center, and The National Guard.
Notably returning for their second year in a row, the live music ensemble, 4Troops will play for the crowd. The band consists of four retired United States military personnel: Former Sgt. Daniel Jens, former Cpt. Meredith Melcher, former Staff Sgt. Ron Henry and former Sgt. David Clemo. They have made appearances on CNN’s Larry King Live, ABC News with Bob Woodruff, PBS, Comedy Central and Game four of the 2010 World Series.political correspondent Candy Crowley and 94.7 FRESH FM’s Tommy McFly will emcee the VIP Reception. The Presenting Sponsor of the gala is Symantec Corporation’s Gigi Schumm who is Vice President and General Manager of Symantec’s Public Sector. There will be a special guest appearance by actor and multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner, Martin Sheen.
Salute to Service Gala 2013 will undoubtedly end up raising thousands of dollars for the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region. Cheers to the great women and men who, through charity, work hard to make our community a better, safer place.
