I was happy to make the last hour of another wonderful gathering hosted by television producer Debbie Durkin at the lavish historic Pickford Estate in Hancock Park. The neighborhood feels like a quite enchanting escape off of nutty dirty Wilshire Boulevard. As guests careen pass perfect hedges and expertly cut grass, the spring day was a wonderful way for people to connect around live music, food, and giving back. I was excited to see the numerous pet sponsors for National Pet Day.
Celebrities came out in full force to help honor the 2013 MTV Movie Awards nominees, presenters, and past winners, as well as recognize National Pet Day and make donations to charity partners We Rock Green Mics, Whole Planet Foundation, and Rescue Bank, a national pet food distribution program.
I never knew about Whole Planet Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization established by Whole Foods Market, which empowers entrepreneurs in global communities in Latin America, Africa, and Asia through microcredit to alleviate poverty. Musicians for Microcredit™ is an initiative started by Whole Planet Foundation in 2011 as a way to engage the music community and its fans to raise awareness and funds. Check out their SITE above to see how you can help an impoverished woman entrepreneur to create or expand a home-based business, providing an opportunity for lift herself and her family out of poverty.
My favorite pet/dog items being showcased and gifted were the following:
Growlers Goods – eco-friendly dog lifestyle pet products which had the hippest looking bandanas for dogs, super sustainable looking dog collars, and even leashes that you could put doggy bags in, as well as gorgeously crafted dog tents that are now being sold at some big stores
Eco Dogs & Cats – vegan dog and cat products
PupChips – all-natural dog snacks that the owner makes that she says are a bit more substantial than a treat. I took home all sorts of baked treats for our pocket pit Chloe, like chicken and sweet potato. In support of National Pet Day, Kelly Guldi of PupChips donated 72,000 bags of treats to Rock n Rolla Movie Awards Eco Party charity partners Rescue Bank, a non-profit bringing donated pet food to non-profit animal welfare organizations
Minky Couture – lush velvety blankets for pets or a doll, and adults too. Our dog Chloe loved rubbing her nose up against the velvety lining.
