Miss A Columnist

Anne Norman has called Austin home since 2010, when she began pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Two years later, she has added a second degree—Rhetoric and Writing—and is content to be a life-long Austinite. Anne tries to incorporate her two biggest hobbies, writing and yoga, into her daily routine. Her latest obsession is Bikram yoga; the ability of her fellow yogis to look graceful while producing their body weight in sweat, so far, escapes her. Anne also enjoys a good book. She gravitates towards reading non fiction which has resulted in a small arsenal of random, but, at times, useful information. Anne spent a semester studying abroad in Singapore, and it ignited a passion to see more of the world. Next stop, Argentina.

Violet Crown Spring Festival In Austin

Join the neighbors of Brentwood and Crestview communities at the Violet Crown Spring Festival as they spend Saturday, May 6, 2013 celebrating the opening of a new trail in Brentwood Park. Families around the Austin area are invited to enjoy an afternoon of family-fun: live music, arts and crafts, local vendors, and a raffle.

Festival goers can expect to see a range of live performances, which include: Jill and the Jaybirds, kid-centric entertainment with bilingual music, puppetry, and stories, Roger Beck and the 29th Street Band, who play swing and country standards, King Amy, Out of the Blue,  a bluegrass, western swing, and folk group, and The New Maps, a Americana-laced pop/rock band.

The Violet Crown Community Works is responsible for putting on the festival as well as other projects that promote community in the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhood. Community initiatives include the Violet Crown Spring festival, the Violet Crown Arts Festival (in December), and community-based projects.

The festival organizers ask that attendees walk their dog (on a leash, please!) or bike to the park due to limited parking and to gain a better appreciation of the neighborhoods!
