The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) will be hosting their annual Bergh Ball on Thursday, April 11th at the Plaza Hotel. It is an exclusive, black-tie event, which brings together a passionate crowd of animal lovers: community leaders, generous donors and celebrities. This year’s ball is being called, “Animal Kingdom,” and the famous designer Issac Mizrahi will, once again, be the master of ceremonies.
There will be cocktails at 7:00 p.m. and dinner and dancing at 8:00 p.m. Like last year, 1stdibs is proudly sponsoring the event. The Bergh Ball’s proceeds will go towards positively impacting the lives of homeless, abused and abandoned animals across the country.
ASPCA’s founder Henry Bergh was the son of a prominent New York shipbuilder who traveled the world. At one point, he served as diplomat at the court of Czar Alexander II in St. Petersburg. There, he witnessed how the mistreatment of horses seemed to be commonplace. When he returned home, he decided to dedicate his life to protecting animals. He created the first humane society in the Americas, which was chartered on April 10th, 1866 by the New York Senate. What better way to welcome spring than to uphold his legacy at the Plaza.
