Review of Jessica Alba’s The Honest Life: Living Naturally And True To You

InStyle highlighted Jessica Alba’s Eco-Friendly and chic home back in 2008. That is when my love affair with Jessica Alba’s home and life all started. I tore those pages out of the magazine for inspiration on style and Eco-Friendly home decor. I still have those pages to this day. Thankfully Jessica gave me something more than a few pages out of InStyle. She gave me (and you!) a whole handbook on Eco-Friendly living! It’s called The Honest Life: Living Naturally And True To You by Jessica Alba.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking. Celebrities are always coming out with ideas and tips on how to “live better” and usually it’s unattainable. Jessica Alba on the other hand has written this guidebook on practically living an honest life. When you read The Honest Life you’ll notice quickly that Jessica Alba is a very down to earth woman. Yes, her status as a celebrity has given her different opportunities and experiences, but you can tell she hasn’t forgotten her roots. She understands what it means to budget and be resourceful because her parents struggled financially while she was growing up. While reading, I felt like I was having a conversation with Jessica. You can tell her words are coming from an “Honest” place. She actually lives what she is preaching and she lives it out passionately.

The goal of The Honest Life is to inform you on how to make choices for your family that are safe from toxins, Eco-Friendly, functional, yet still stylish so you can start living naturally. Jessica Alba explains in the introduction why she wrote the book, “I decided to write this book because I was sick of being told that ‘healthy,’ ‘safe,’ and ‘eco’ meant ‘boring,’ ‘beige,’ and ‘blah.’ The reason I respect Jessica Alba and the ideas in her book is because she didn’t just keep her knowledge to herself, but she shared them with us! Her life opportunities have allowed for her to have resources in every field. She has the resources to do a lot of research and she has contacts that have helped defend her research. At the end of the day, she realized how important it is for all of us to be as educated as her!

I love this quote from her book, “When you’re talking to people about the lifestyle changes you’ve been making, keep it positive! It’s so much better to promote what you love than to bash what you hate.”  This quote means a lot to me because when people are judgmental about motherhood issues, parenting, or just lifestyle issues it is such a turn off. You can tell that Jessica Alba isn’t being judgmental when she is sharing her tips on how to live an Honest life. She just wants to pass on important and noteworthy information because she sees the benefits of an Honest lifestyle. Through The Honest Life, Jessica Alba is sharing a wealth of knowledge on living Eco-Friendly in ALL areas of your life. ‘
