SXSW Interactive 2013: Lounges

On every single block are these fantastic build outs of big brand lounges all over downtown for SXSW Interactive.  Conduit Corner at Congress and 7th is a convenient spot to grab a cold (free!) beer, charge your phone, try some international cuisine and check out some new video games.  One of the ‘swag trends’ that I first noticed here is the option for now screen printing your own shirts for SXSW.  They are making shirts here that must incorporate the letter ‘U’ so guests are coming up with creative ways of getting their own personal phrase on a shirt that’s then printed in 4 minutes.

The BBC America lounge is located directly across from the Convention Center in Brushy Square Park (E. 4th Street and Trinity).  Here, BBC invited guests to ‘Refuel, Charge Up and Get Bucked.’  Guests can watch rugby games in the lounge, watch music, or enjoy happy hour with Lord Humphrey.

My favorite lounge so far has been the Samsung Galaxy Lounge, a block north of the convention center.  Here you can screen print your own shirt and learn how to design it yourself using the extremely cool Samsung Galaxy phone.  Then, use the phone to order from the cafe (think root beer floats, grilled cheese and sliders).  There’s constant activity and SX-themed scheduling going on in the lounge. During my visit, I was lucky enough to catch a talk with some of the team from Arrested Development, which was just fantastic!!

In the Convention Center, the Pay Pal lounge was making icees, which you could enjoy with or without adding some flavored alcohol.  But, I simply stumbled on another entertainment lounge in the Convention Center that was a conversation with the

hilarious and adorable Jake Johnson and Lamorne Morris from FOX’s New Girl.  There were talking about the shows, their characters and how they related to themselves in real life.  The audience loved how interactive the guys were, and it was quiet a special talk to simply run into.  Just another good measure to keep your eyes and ears open all around downtown Austin this week. You never know who you can run into or what exciting unofficial events are going on!
