Terri Schiavo
On Friday, April 5, supporters of the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network will come together at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown for a night of reflection, appreciation and recognition. The Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network’s Award Gala will feature guest speaker, Governor Sarah Palin, who will speak about issues close to the hearts of those involved in the organization. The evening will start off with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. and then continue on with dinner and the main events of the night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
This year, on April 5, the community celebrates Terri’s Day. It is a day to recognize the issues which Terri Schiavo and her family faced during her lifetime, show support for individuals and families who are facing similar situations, and to commemorate the work of those who strive to ensure that the cognitively disabled are protected. Many individuals throughout the country are familiar with the controversy which involved Terri Schiavo whereby a 2005 court decision determined that her feeding tube be removed. Today, the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network works to advocate for those in similar positions such as those faced by Terri and her family and educate the community about the cognitively disabled. In addition, the organization lends a hand to those families who are faced with similar situations and shows support for families enduring what Terri’s family had gone through.

The Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network’s Award Gala is also being held, in addition to remembering Terri and continuing the beneficial work of the organization, to honor special individuals who have defended the lives of their loved ones with tireless dedication. This year’s recipients of the inaugural Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Award are Moe and Sana Maraachli. In addition to Governor Palin speaking at the gala, other attendees will include Deborah Flora, actress, radio talk show host, producer and second runner-up in the Miss America competition, who will be the emcee of the evening, award-winning author Wesley Smith, and acclaimed author and speaker, Brian Gail.

Guests at the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network’s Award Gala will have the opportunity to spend an evening with others dedicated to raising awareness as to the hurdles experienced by Ms. Schiavo’s family throughout her hospitalization and hospice care and advocate on behalf of those who may be experiencing similar situations. The proceeds raised from the Award Gala will go towards furthering the multi-faceted purposes of the organization and continuing to educate the public on issues such as those faced by Terri and her family.
