Miss A Columnist

Hayley Orzech is the News & Opinion Editor for Miss A. She found her passion in writing. She grew up in Detroit, MI and though it has been through the mill, she still has faith in it. She just graduated from Northern Michigan University and believes that you have not seen snow until you’ve spent a winter in Marquette on the shores of Lake Superior. She is in love with traveling and her hope now is to see as many places as she can while pursuing her dreams. She grew up in a large Polish family, full of firefighters. If she has learned anything other than how to not set her house on fire, it is that you can never take your blessings for granted because they might be up in flames before you can blink.

She adores traveling and meeting new people from all walks of life. She reads and writes everyday in between navigating her early 20’s. She's made it her mission to spread the wealth to those who are less fortunate. We are all in this together, after all.
She has had the privilege of adventures like snowboarding down the Rocky Mountains, jumping off of a cliff into clear, beautiful Lake Superior, hearing music on the Detroit River, running down a sand dune into the Au Sable River, looking up at the Statue of Liberty, climbing up a waterfall in Jamaica, letting her fingertips graze over a shark in Key West, hiking in California, gazing at Mount Rushmore, holding onto a giant Redwood tree and so many others that she can hardly believe her luck. All she truly want out of life is to have more adventures while helping others and doing the thing she love to do most: write.

Beauty Inside And Out: Zooey Deschanel

It’s hard to miss the quirky, gorgeous Zooey Deschanel these days. The actress and indie songstress has graced the cover of magazines like Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan and makes us laugh until we cry as the lovable Jess Day on Fox’s “New Girl.” It is easy, then, to see why any of the beauty brands we choose to fill our make-up bags with would want Ms. Deschanel to represent them, but it might just be her inner beauty that has kept brands like Pantene Pro-V and Rimmel London coming back for more.

As any woman could understand, the prospect of losing hair to illness would be terrifying, especially in a society so obsessed with beauty. As the recently appointed spokeswoman of Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner and the face of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign, Ms. Deschanel showed up to their cut for charity with scissors in hand, ready to show off her skills as a stylist. The campaign offers free hair cuts to women willing to donate eight or more inches of hair so that it all might be turned into real hair wigs, given for free to women in need. The fear of losing hair is one that Ms. Deschanel says “has an easy fix.” She was all smiles as she chatted away with one volunteer who described both the event and Ms. Deschanel as ‘awesome.’

Aside from her own gorgeous hair, Ms. Deschanel is also known for her hard to forget, dazzling eyes, which she currently shows off with the help of Rimmel London’s mascara. As one of the faces chosen to represent them, Ms. Deschanel is a spokeswoman for the brand’s Lash Accelerator Mascara as well as their Moisture Renew Lipstick, and Match Perfection Foundation. Now, it isn’t that we are proud to admit it, but what girl hasn’t gotten out of a speeding ticket by batting her eyelashes? Ms. Deschanel, though she may be innocent of this, is still in the spirit of freeing the wrongly accused by supporting the Innocence Project, a non-profit organization whose aim is to prove innocent all wrongly accused peoples through the use of DNA testing. As of now, over 290 people have been freed across the country and the number continues to rise.

With a heart as big as her personality, it is plain to see why some of our favorite beauty brands chose her to represent them. We can all breathe a sigh of relief now that we know the products crammed into our own make-up bags are backed up by generous people like Zooey Deschanel. Come back next week to see what other starlets are putting their fame to good use by being beautiful inside and out.
