Meera Rajagopalan is the Austin Editor for Miss A. A proud Longhorn, Meera earned her journalism degree from UT. Some of her hobbies include event planning, writing and baking. She loves trying new recipes and experimenting with food. Her latest creation was Pistachio Fudge. A tech nerd at heart, Meera loves cool iPhone apps and geeking out with friends about social media trends. Aside from the tech stuff, Meera also enjoys discovering new fonts. There’s something about finding the perfect font to help enhance titles. Besides her hobbies, Meera loves free stuff. So far besides tons of samples, she’s won concert tickets, movie passes (compliments of Do512) and a cooking class.

Auditorium Shores Concerts Benefit Latinas Unidas Por El Arte At SXSW 2013

Each year hundreds of bands and musicians flock to Austin to perform at the South By Southwest Festival. While many performances require a badge or wristband to attend, there is also a free concert series.

During the Thursday to Saturday of SXSW, Auditorium Shores becomes a three-day music series, free and open to the public. Past performers include The Strokes, She & Him, Cheap Trick, Public Enemy, M. Ward, Bright Eyes, just to name a few.

This year the final day of the series will be an all-day concert to benefit Keep It Goin’, the initiative to continue Levon Helm’s legacy and create a musical landmark at his barn in Woodstock. The day will be headlined by The Midnight Ramble Band, showcasing the best of Levon’s and The Band’s music. Other artists that day include Robert Randolph and The Family BandLos Lonely BoysJJ Grey & MofroJames HunterSpirit Family ReunionNicki Bluhm & The Gramblers and The Mother Hips. Donation centers around the park will be accepting contributions to Keep It Goin’.

Some of the other artists performing at SXSW this year are  Jovanotti, Bajofonda, The Flaming Lips, and Jim James.

New to this year’s SXSW is the Market at Auditorium Shores, which is a space designed for a select group of Art and Fashion vendors on the West Side of the Park.

A portion of the proceeds from Auditorium Shores will benefit Latinas Unidas Por El Arte (LUPE). LUPE is a “non-profits arts and arts education organization that partners up with area businesses and community leaders to enrich the lives of students, artists and other arts organizations in the Central Texas region.” It “strives to further the critical thinking skills, literacy, academic achievement and media awareness for students through arts education.”
