King Street Cats (KSC), Alexandria’s only cat-exclusive, no-kill, free-roaming cat orphanage, is inviting everyone to help celebrate its tenth anniversary at Ten Thousand Villages in Old Town on Thursday, March 14 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wine and chocolates, generously donated by Artfully Chocolate, will be served. A portion of the proceeds from store sales that evening will go to benefit KSC. And, some KSC kittens looking for their forever homes will be in attendance.
With an all-volunteer organization that has rescued an estimated 2,500 cats and kittens, KSC recorded its highest adoption rate on record in 2012. It is a partner with America’s largest animal sanctuary — Best Friends Animal Society — in its No More Homeless Pets initiative. Located at 25 Dove Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, KSC rescues more than 350 cats and kittens a year.
According to Vivien Bacon, board president of KSC, “Reaching the 10-year mark is a major achievement for an all-volunteer animal rescue group. A decade ago we could not have imagined that we would now find ourselves in a special facility on Dove Street in Alexandria. We could not do this work without the support of the local community, including many dedicated people who volunteer their time to caring for our cats until they find their forever homes.”
