Amy Winehouse was a truly inspiring entertainer. Known for her fascinating vocals and the expansive genre range of her works, which included R&B, soul and jazz, Amy Winehouse has been an icon to children all over the world for years. But many are not aware of the late artist’s other side, away from the music industry. Winehouse was once described as “the most charitable act” due to her continuous and generous support for causes and organizations such as Adopt-A-Minefield, Oxfam, Save the Children, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, UNHCR and Greenpeace. She was a great advocate of organizations supporting children and the promotion of the arts and donated a large amount of her fortune as well as a large amount of her time and talent to helping these causes.

After her death in July 2011, her father Mitch Winehouse set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation in honor of his daughter. The Foundation seeks to support and empower youth around the world and also to avert drug and alcohol misuse amongst youngsters and adolescents. The Foundation does this by supporting music therapy and educational programs in a range of location such as universities, hospitals and schools, offering scholarship grants to students from disadvantaged families for education as well as helping to meet the psychological, mental and emotional needs of children from underprivileged backgrounds.

On March 21st, 2013, the Amy Winehouse Foundation Inspiration Awards and Gala will take place in New York City to honor renowned Italian-American entertainer Tony Bennett with the AWF Inspiration Award for Lifetime Achievement, hip hop producer and keyboardist Salaam Remi with the AWF Inspiration Award for Visionary Leadership, American rapper NAS with the AWF Inspiration Award for a New Generation and Elhadj “Moe” Kane, who has worked with several organizations that focus on renewable energy solutions with the AWF Inspiration Award for Helping Build a Better World. The night will feature performances by Grammy Award winning artist Jennifer Hudson, NAS and many more notorious artists that are sure to be no less than fabulous. There will also be cocktails, dinner and a live auction.
