Paul Newman may have legendary actor status, but his philanthropic ways are no less substantial as they advanced humanitarian and social causes around the world. What started out as homemade Christmas gifts for friends and neighbors, his salad dressing became an instant hit, with people asking for more. Paul delivered with the launch of Newman’s Own.

The brand that started with salad dressing, and expanded to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, salsa, and even wine. Newman established a policy that all proceeds, after taxes, would be donated to charity. The Newman’s Own Organics: The Second Generation is an organic line of food including a line for man’s best friend, dogs. This line is headed by Paul’s daughter Nell. Her inspiration for the line comes from childhood favorites, but with a new twist. All certified organic ingredients for the best foundation.
Newman’s Own Foundation, funded from after-tax proceeds from sales of the products, in turn dispenses to charities throughout the U.S. and around the globe. More than $350 million has been given to thousands of charities since 1982. The Newman Own Award is given annually in collaboration with Fisher House Foundation and Military Times Media Group.
This grants $100,000 to the most unique initiatives that improve the quality of life for military families. Newman’s Own also partners with Ford Motor Company and Feeding America, to help distribute food to people in need. The program has donated 102 trucks throughout the U.S. and around the globe and has delivered more than 130 million meals nationwide.

As lead sponsor of Make A Difference Day, Newman’s Own celebrates volunteerism by awarding $10,000 to each of the 10 most outstanding volunteer projects every year.
