On February 9, 2013, Fashion Uncorked, the Project Runway-inspired design competition, raised over $20,000 for Easter Seals of North Georgia and crowned an emerging design talent at America’s Mart in downtown Atlanta.
The stylish crowd of 500 people gathered to sip wine from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, taste mini muffins from Sweet Sensations, and indulge in makeovers from SD Luxuri Cosmetics. Independent clothing and jewelry designers showcased their collections, and Uber was on hand to transport guests in style.
The audience enjoyed a variety of entertainment before the main event, including a performance from Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, an art reveal from Ghazalah Coulter, and an exclusive peek at the new collection from Sidratu Maju, winner of Fashion Uncorked 2012.
Ten finalists, chosen from contestants across the city, competed for a chance to win an all expense paid trip to LA Fashion Week, a feature in Kontrol Magazine, and the opportunity to exhibit their designs at New Orleans Fashion Week 2014.
Each contestant created three looks inspired by a jewelry collection. There were glamorous pant suits, flirty cocktail dresses, and sultry evening gowns, but there was one clear winner. Keon Brown wowed the judges with his evening look – a floor-length black evening gown adorned with hundreds of tiny red rosettes, and his day look – shimmery bronze leggings paired with a white ruffled blouse. In addition to raising money for Easter Seals, Fashion Uncorked serves as a springboard to launch fashion careers, so we’re sure to see great things from Mr. Brown in the future.
