Lace up your sneakers on March 2 with the Junior League of Washington at the Annual Bright Beginnings 5K and help raise money for homeless infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and their families. All proceeds from the race will support Bright Beginnings, Inc., a nationally-accredited non-profit organization, which provides educational, therapeutic and family-stabilizing services that give homeless children the best chance of success in school and in life.
Participating in the annual race has never been so easy—all are invited to run, walk, join the “stroller brigade,” or even participate “virtually.” The race will start and finish at West Potomac Park, at Ohio Drive and Independence Avenue, SW. Walkers, runners, and stroller riders of all ages are welcome. The official 5K starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by a stroller brigade, which starts at 8:05 a.m. Top finishers will receive cash and other great prizes.
Bright Beginnings, Inc. was founded in 1991 by the Junior League of Washington with the objective of addressing a critical need for quality childcare for homeless families in Washington, D.C. Since then, Bright Beginnings, Inc. has provided nearly 1,700 children a safe, nurturing, educational environment which prepares them for kindergarten while also giving families support such that they can stabilize their home lives and become self-sufficient. Throughout the year, JLW volunteers provide childcare while parents receive literacy and life skills training, plan literacy events for children and their families, and organize special holiday events to bring cheer into the lives of the Bright Beginnings families.
