On Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 7 p.m, America SCORES Chicago will host their annual Red Carpet Poetry Slam.
The poetry slam features performances by poet-athletes who are selected based on their performance in November’s Community Poetry Slam. The event will also feature a cocktail reception and silent auction. All proceeds will go to America SCORES Chicago.
The event will also feature The Calliope Award, which is given to community members who have used their voice, resources, and talents to make an impact on America SCORES. The 2012 honorees were the Polk Bros Foundation, Starbucks, and Jason Tyler of Northern Trust,
The event will be hosted by Cristalle Bowen, also known as Psalm One. She has been named one of the best artists in the city by the Chicago Tribune. She is a Chicago native and released her first album, “Bio:Chemistry,” in 2011. In 2007, Psalm One started Charm Lab, a music mentoring program designed to bridge the gap between music and education. In 2008, she began working with the The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Residency Program, which included partnering with a team at America SCORES Chicago.
America SCORES Chicago is a soccer, poetry and free after school program serving Chicago’s youth grades K-8. America SCORES Chicago’s unique mix of programming gives students the means and the motivation to become leaders in their schools and their communities.
