It is time to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Juice Stand! We all know the famous style, or have at least seen the beachy, colorful blends of Lilly Pulitzer that grace Charleston and the world day after day, but do we know the romantic and fun filled history behind the brand?
When she was only 21 years old, Lilly eloped with Peter Pulitzer (I know, it is already heart warming). In 1959, Lilly opened a Juice Stand in Palm Beach, Florida that merely hid behind the Citrus Groves of her husband Peter. This is where Lilly’s clever nature came into play: she hid the juice stains on her clothing with a simple and innovative idea, a sleeveless dress made out of colorful cottons. The style was born! “Lilly was a rule breaker. We love that,” says Janie Schoenborn, the Design Director for Lilly Pulitzer. Come 1962, the well-known Jacqueline Kennedy (former schoolmate of Lilly) appeared on the cover of LIFE magazine wearing a “Lilly” shift dress. The style became famous!
Today the design and print team for Lilly Pulitzer has nothing but great times stealing inspiration everywhere from museums to gardens, while spending every day on the beach. They create styles, pick colors and choose themes for each season! And here is where the fun truly begins: the Lilly Pulitzer 10th Anniversary Party in Charleston, SC.
Color, fashion, style and beauty all found in the heart of downtown Charleston; it should undoubtedly be on your list of places to stop and shop the latest Spring Collection on a beautiful Saturday! Come spend a few minutes, hours or the whole day with your girlfriends enjoying the atmosphere and fashion. Men, bring your lady and impress her with your newfound knowledge of Lilly’s history, or simply add to a great afternoon in Charleston with sweet treats and complementary gifts with purchases. In certain instances, a percentage of your purchase proceeds will be donated to a variety of organizations, including the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Central Florida Gator Club. This is an event you do not want to miss. There is absolutely no better location or city for such a party!
