Tucked away in the suburbs of Baltimore, FRESH! Boutique provides exactly what its name implies—a fresh approach to style. With row after row of colorful clothing, elegant chandeliers and trendy patterned décor, it is the type of store you might expect to find in New York City. FRESH! is located at Green Spring Station in Lutherville, as part of The Gatehouse Shoppes.

Owner Heidi Slacum opened the store in 2005 with the mission of empowering women and giving back to the community by donating a portion of her sales to local charities and empowering emerging designers. With the motto “Fashion Meets Philanthropy,”  FRESH! sells unique clothing and accessories from both local and national labels. In the store’s early days, Slacum worked with local designers and artists that had recently escaped abusive situations. As the boutique evolved, they started incorporating national labels while still keeping in with “under the radar” brands.

FRESH! partners with local organizations for runway show fundraisers, sponsorship and merchandise donations. They recently supported the Believe in Tomorrow’s Children Foundation by sending a teenager who was struggling with cancer on a shopping spree at the store. FRESH! also works with Ruth’s Closet to supply new merchandise for a retail program that benefits the House of Ruth in Baltimore, which serves  women who are survivors of domestic violence.

“It’s especially meaningful when I know we have supported a charity that helps women gain independence or women and children get out of abusive situations. We love making people feel great about themselves, but it starts from the inside out.”

This spring, owner Heidi Slacum said to look for trends such as leather embellishments in bright colors, color-blocking, pastels and floral prints.
