According to Use It Or Lose It by Richard Powers, frequent dancing apparently makes us more intelligent. A major study added to the growing evidence that stimulating one’s mind can ward off Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, much as physical exercise can keep the body fit. Dancing also increases cognitive acuity at all ages and more recently we’ve seen research on further health benefits of dancing, such as stress reduction and increased serotonin level.
Why not take advantage of the benefits of dancing while helping a great cause? LIGHTS. CAMERA. CURE. The Hollywood Dance-A-THON is a six hour dance party/charity event at the historic Avalon Theater in the heart of Hollywood. The event features live entertainment performing for supporters who have signed up to dance and raise money for the cause. Of course, the Hollywood locale is complete with a red carpet, celebrities and VIPs, a silent auction and more. Proceeds benefit the FOUR DIAMONDS FUND and their fight against pediatric cancer. The benefit is being sponsored by The Penn State Alumni Association Los Angeles Chapter in support of THON, the 46-hour dance marathon run by the students and held at the school each February for the past 40 years. Last year, THON raised nearly $10 million bringing their total donations to more than $78 million. You can contribute to this year’s total by participating in the Hollywood Dance-a-THON.
The Hollywood Dance-A-THON raises money for charity by soliciting donations from the family and friends of those that sign up to participate. No dance skills are required, just a desire to help children with cancer. Sign up to dance today!
