I think we can all agree that teddy bears and red roses are about due for a break on Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for a fun way to hang out with your sweetie, or even a friend, how about learning how to roll your own sushi? Add a few tasters of Japanese beer in there and you have a deal! Now what would you say if we threw in a chocolate lava cake just for good measure? Well, Cafe Japengo in La Jolla is offering a themed cooking class on Saturday February 16th from noon to 2 pm. Executive Sushi Chef Jerry Warner is switching up his monthly cooking class to add a bit of Valentine’s flair!
This won’t be your typical Valentine’s date. Chef Jerry will lead students through a two-hour hands-on tutorial involving rice and fish selection, knife work with fish, handling sticky rice, and show you how to create traditional as well as hand rolls. He will also share the different characteristics of fish and where to buy sushi grade fish locally.
This class does want to keep some of the intimacy of Valentine’s Day so it is limited to 20 people. If you feel like doing something fun, hands-on, and delicious this year, Cafe Japengo has just the thing.
