Well, it’s almost the end of January, and if you have already cheated on your New Year’s resolutions to exercise more often, I have a solution to get you over that guilt trip.
Come on DOWN, so you can go UP — climbing one of downtown Dallas’ most recognizable skyscrapers at the Fountain Place. There will be 52 flights of stairs for you to climb (1,040 steps)! The Big D Climb will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising money for blood cancer research designed to mitigate leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. Presented by Ivie & Associates, the event is a race up 52 flights of stairs with awards given for fastest climber overall, fastest climber by age division, and best team spirit top fundraising individual/team.
Last January, more than 1,000 climbers raced and helped to raise more than $145,000, and now in its 5th year, the goal is to have more than 1,500 climbers and to raise $200,000.
Here are the details of the day:
SATURDAY 26, 2013 – RACE DAY!
7:30a.m. – Climb registration opens
7:50a.m. – Climb rules and regulations are announced
8:00a.m. – Elite climbers start
8:10a.m. – First Responders Division begins
8:30a.m. – General climbers start
9:00a.m. – Day of registration closes
All Day – 52 flights of fun!
WHEN SHOULD YOU ARRIVE?
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time. You will need that time to park, check out the vendor alley, stretch and be in line in time for your start time. Parking is free at the Fountain Place parking lot on Munger. The street-level parking lot is the only Big D Climb-endorsed lot.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
1. Bring a photo ID for security.
2. Indoor restrooms are limited. Portable restrooms are located outside the building. Please use these on your way in.
3. Climbers should wear comfortable clothes. Bring a towel and other things you normally use to work out. Water and cheer stations will be available in several locations along the way to the top.
4. Only climbers and LLS staff and volunteers are allowed on the 52nd floor. Due to limited space, prepare to meet your family and friends on the ground floor or at a partner bar after the climb.
IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CLIMB
The Big D Climb will be partnering with local bars and restaurants to offer discounts through coupons in your climb bags or by wearing Big D Climb t-shirts.
