On February 12<sup>th</sup>, you can help to turn the page on these staggering statistics by attending the <a href="http://http://washingtonliteracycenter.org/news/love-letters-for-literacy-celebrates-20th-anniversary/"><strong>20<sup>th</sup> Annual Love Letters for Literacy</strong></a>, the signature fundraising event for the <a href="http://http://washingtonliteracycenter.org/"><strong>Washington Literacy Center</strong></a> (WLC) at the <strong>National Museum for Women in the Arts</strong> benefiting WLC’s adult literacy program. This year’s gala will feature political journalist <strong>Margaret Carlson</strong>, a popular columnist for TIME magazine-Public Eye and political news commentator for FOX News and MSNBC. Her spirited writing as the chief political correspondent for Bloomberg News and the Washington editor of The Week, along with her 15 years of experience as a regular panelist on CNN’s The Capital Gang, have made her one of the most recognized and respected political journalists of today. Politico founder <strong>Jim VandeHei</strong> will also join the event as a celebrity reader. Formerly a national news reporter for The Washington Post, VandeHei created Politico to provide for a new and exciting way of delivering political news. In addition to these esteemed guests, Love Letters for Literacy guests will hear inspiring stories from several students who have participated in WLC’s adult literacy program. WLC students come from all walks of life—some are new to the country while others are high school graduates who are reading at a minimum level. Many are mothers and fathers who are having difficulty finding work because they can’t read job announcements in a newspaper or a job application. What brings these students together at the WLC is their their desire to learn to read and lead a better life for themselves, and in many cases, for the families they support. WLC Executive Director <strong>Mary (Terry) Algire</strong>, Event Chair <strong>Cameron Gilreath</strong> (Time Warner, Inc.) and Vice Chair <strong>Bradley Hayes (</strong>U.S. Chamber of Commerce), have an exciting evening planned complete a pre-dinner reception, a silent and live auction (emceed by <strong>Former Senator Don Nickles</strong> as the live auctioneer) and a seated dinner.
