Many of us have made plans to eat better in the New Year in order to become a healthier and happier version of ourselves. Unfortunately, there are many articles, organizations, and diets that can lead us astray and dupe us dieters into making unsavvy health choices.
A healthy diet is rich in essential vitamins, nutrients and water. This means to eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts and limiting the intake of salt, sugar and oil and fat – especially saturated animal fats. Portions should be sized to represent our own level of activity (e.g. Olympic athletes consume in excess of 2,000 calories a day, while stay-at-home moms ought to consume fewer).
Eating well does not mean having to sacrifice flavor and taste, nor does it mean you can never dine out. A hefty dose of San Diego sunshine and waves mixed with organic and locally grown produce, hormone free meats, and sustainable seafood can be found at Caroline’s Seaside Café in La Jolla. A perfect blend of sophistication and simplicity, one will find beach bums and researchers mingling with the ladies-who-lunch and the power meeting crowd at this hopping seaside spot. One can enjoy ocean views whilst on the outdoor patio, or indoors via floor to ceiling windows.
The weekend menu varies from the weekday menu, but regardless of when you visit, you will find delicious soups, sandwiches, salads, and grains. While some of the items are not especially healthy (the hormone-free burger), one does get the chance of redemption with the option of a healthy side of fresh fruit or salad.
