Five year old Hudson was in a serious car accident and suffered severe brain injury. Hudson was rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center and was treated by doctors, as his parents patiently waited for the outcome for eight long days. “We were terrified we would never speak to Hudson again” said his mother. “We had no idea if he’d ever talk, hear or see . . . or if he’d ever wake up.” Soon after, Hudson finally responded with a big smile and recuperated for three weeks in the center followed by three more weeks in the center’s rehabilitation unit. Hudson still suffers hearing loss in his right ear and continues speech and physical therapies at the center, yet Hudson’s father says, “He is 99.9 percent the little boy he was before the accident. We’ll never know why it happened, but our lesson is to cherish our loved ones.”

The Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas is the only dedicated freestanding pediatric facility in the region. Serving a 46-county area and beyond, Dell Children’s Medical Center is the premier health care provider for children and adolescents. This year’s annual Dell Children’s Gala, co-chaired by Mary Miles and Owen Temple, will benefit the center and proceeds from each annual gala provide more than $1 million to the Medical Center’s area of greatest need.
The center recognizes that children are special and are not merely “small adults” yet children have unique healthcare needs. Statistics show that children heal faster when treated in a children’s hospital. “Kids are different and so is Dell Children’s Medical Center.”
This year’s gala will begin with a cocktail reception and include a delicious meal for patrons while enjoying a program organized by the passionate and hard-working members of the organization who will present the program filled with past success stories and future goals for the organization. Patrons will enjoy live music, dancing a lavish casino and even an after party at the elegant yet swanky Four Seasons Hotel.
Dell Children’s Medical Center Foundation of Central Texas serves as the fundraising arm for Dell Children’s Medical Center. By partnering with families, individuals and organizations, the foundation supports the hospital’s mission to serve more than 142,000 sick and injured children per year in the Central Texas 46-county region. Patrons and sponsors at the annual Dell galas each year truly make a significant impact on helping strengthen the center and in turn save and help rehabilitate children of need and allow them and their families to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
