Recently, Shelter Legal Services held its annual gala at the The Ritz-Carlton Boston. The Shelter Legal Services (SLS) provides on-site legal advice and representation for low-income veterans and the homeless in the Boston area.
The night celebrated the efforts and accomplishments of the staff and board of directors within the last year, while raising money and awareness for the non-profit organization. And what better way to celebrate for a great cause than with a silent auction, music by the Jazzabelles, beverages, and hors d’eouvres to satisfy the hungry palette?
This year, John J. Regan, Esq. (“Jack”) received the “Distinguished Service Award” for his dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts to improve the lives of Shelter Service’s clients. The award honors recipients who achieve the Shelter’s mission of encouraging self-sufficiency, financial security, and stability for veterans and the homeless.
Thanks to the SLS’s team of Massachusetts based lawyers in 2012, over 400 clients received more than a million dollars of free, accessible, and comprehensible legal advice and representation. The SLS reaches out to legal clinics at homeless shelters, service centers, and facilities like the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, The Cambridge Multi-Service Center, and the Chelsea Soldier’s Home. With over 7,000 homeless in Massachusetts and a growing number of female homeless veterans, Tim McLaughlin, the President of the Shelter Legal Services, is committed to giving back to the thousands of homeless and at risk veterans.
