Want to revamp the look of your living room without spending a ton of money and with a lot less effort than repainting?

Buy a few new throw pillows to accessorize your couch and notice how it instantly freshens up your space.  By mixing and matching based on a particular color scheme or theme makes your room look less hotel-like and more cozy.

For spring, I like unconventional floral prints, such as Anthropologie‘s Maypop pillow, or the endearing Bunny Linen Pillow by Thomas Paul, or the calming, yet perhaps somewhat creepy Ducks Chain Stitch pillow by Virginia Johnson.

Also, I like nautical and/or beach themes, as long as they aren’t too over the top.  This West Elm whale pillow is a cute graphic print that’s perfect for spring.

Another personal favorite that can be used year-round are the Cat Studio geography pillows, which enable you to show visitors your hometown pride, your current city pride, your favorite vacation spot, etc.

Design-wise, it’s good to balance a really graphic print with some softer background colors or neutrals, and Crate and Barrel’s Magnusson collection has a variety of options for a medium price.

Rotate out a few sets of pillows throughout the year—for example, at the start of each season, as a quick and easy spruce-up.
