If you’re a foodie like me, you actively seek wine and cheese pairings and food tastings while reading hundreds of Yelp reviews to check the quality of a particular restaurant and its fare. This time, the research is done for you. Mainline Magazine and Bucks Life Magazine present the 5th annual Savor – A Celebration of Food which will take place at the Crystal Tea Room in Downtown Philadelphia. This is one place you can go to find top notch tastes without doing extensive background research. Sometimes over-indulging and cheating on your diet can send you on a guilt trip but this time is an exception. Everyone is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items which will benefit Philabundance so ample good will result from your few hours of being bad.

While mixing and mingling in the always extravagant and nicely decorated venue, attendees will sample food from some of the area’s top restaurants like the elegant Water Works Restaurant. Cocktail connoisseurs will have access to an open-bar. Last year’s event featured cheeses and fruits among delectable cakes and chocolates. Your non-perishable food donations will qualify you to possibly win gift certificates to some of the region’s best restaurants. An added bonus to the traditional gift certificate drawing is a new contest that earns one lucky donor 500 dollars worth of restaurant gift certificates if the weight of their food contribution is highest of all attendees.

Philabundance serves families who suffer from food poverty, which is the lack of access to affordable and nutritious food. On a weekly basis, thousands of people benefit from its programs. The organization, in conjunction with the food industry and generous individuals, proactively works towards ending hunger for the region’s impoverished citizens. In efforts to be innovative the organization places an emphasis on collecting and distributing healthy foods. Previous Savor events have raised hundreds of pounds of food which enabled Philabundance to provide thousands of meals to people throughout nine counties in the region. Each year they strive to surpass the last.

For once you won’t have to check Yelp and TripAdvisor to see if a restaurant is worthwhile. The area’s best flavors will be within your reach at Savor. During this weekend’s Wegman’s trip, grab some extra canned tomato sauce and dried pasta. Maybe even grab some bulk items from BJ’s Wholesale in order to increase your chance of winning the grand prize. Then, add the event your calendar to partake in the celebration of food by donating and enjoying food in honor of a worthy cause.
