The 30th annual MS Gala Luncheon, presented by DBS Financial Group/MassMutual, will take flight on Wednesday, January 23. More than 1,200 guests from the tri-county area will gather for the prestigious luncheon that has raised more than $5 million since its inception for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s South Florida Chapter, which helps fund research to find the cause of MS, ways to treat MS and, ultimately, a cure for the disease.
The event will be in a lofty new location for it’s 30th anniversary, held at the Sheltair airplane hangar in Fort Lauderdale, the home to South Florida’s sleekest private jets owned by some of the area’s business tycoons and social elite.
This year’s honorees are Fred and Jodi Rothman and their daughters, Lecia and Alie. The Rothmans learned firsthand about the concerns of MS when Alie was diagnosed with MS during her freshman year of high school. The family created a team for the MS Boca Walk raising more than $650,000, and Fred became one of the top fundraisers in the country.
During the luncheon international fashion designer Rene Ruiz will debut his Spring/Summer 2013 collection. One of the models in the show is Briana Vega, a 10-year-old girl undergoing treatment for leukemia who met Ruiz last year. Ruiz was so inspired by Vega story that he wanted to do something special for her. Ruiz invited Vega to be in the MS Gala Luncheon Fashion Show and created a custom gown for her so she could be a “supermodel” for the day. In addition to Ruiz’s designs, models will wear jewelry provided by J.R. Dunn Jewelers, the official jewelry sponsor of the MS Gala Luncheon & Fashion Show.
