Miss A Columnist

Shawna Nadelman is a Gemini vegetarian who enjoys long walks on the beach and curling up on the couch to take in the latest episode of, well anything on Bravo. The staff at Trader Joe’s (the Encinitas location) know her by name. She can spout off almost any celebrity’s dating history, refer to Friends episodes in daily conversation and would give anything to marry a man like Coach Eric Taylor (of Friday Night Lights). She’s never met a ruffle, oversized flower or horizontal stripe that she didn't love and though her entire wardrobe hails from J.Crew and Anthropologie, she'll never buy an item at full price (momma loves a good sale!). Sure, some may argue she's the whitest gal they know, but (surprise!) she's fluent in Spanish and left a part of her heart in Madrid, Spain after a summer abroad in college. Her family is her everything and she certainly does not deserve her friends. Left to her own devices, she could probably finish off a jar of peanut/almond butter in one sitting.

Bite M.e Mediterranean Eatery And Kabobery In Downtown San Diego

When it comes to eating healthily, finding foods that will tantalize your taste buds is often an arduous endeavor. Further still, despite the best intentions, the time it takes to plan out heart and figure-friendly meals often leaves a diner so overwhelmed that he/she simply opts for a trip to the local fast food joint instead.

But what if there was a restaurant that could provide both delectable and unique cuisine with the speed and convenience of your neighborhood drive-thru? Well healthy-eaters and healthy-eaters-in-training rejoice! On F Street in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter is the answer to your prayers -Bite M.e Mediterranean Eats and Kabobery. Boasting the solution to the long-standing struggle of eating healthily in a quick and convenient environment, Bite M.e offers patrons an eclectic and health-conscious menu combining the traditional flavors of the Mediterranean with classic American fare.

Upon entering this quaint eatery, the bright silver and tangerine interior is immediately inviting as is the friendly smile of General Manager, Clarence Shipp, who joined the Bite M.e team about 8 months ago, and is at the restaurant overseeing things most days.  One might think that after almost a year of employment here, he would have grown tired of the cuisine, but he’ll be quick to discount that as fact. He’s just as in love with the menu as he was the day he started. In fact, Bite M.e’s signature housemade hummus has made consuming hummus from anywhere else near impossible. And one taste of my own and I’d have to agree. It’s that good.

Bite M.e’s talented culinary team whips up all of the eatery’s sauces, dressings, and spreads from scratch on the daily. From their take on traditional tahini and tzatziki that come served along their melt-in-your-mouth homemade falafel and lamb gyros, to their basil vinaigrette that comes atop their Mediterranean Salad -a refreshing mix of greens, onions, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, kalamata olives, and feta cheese, and not to mention their not-for-the-faint-of-heart fiery feta spread (made with chipotle), Bite M.e’s dedication to providing not only a delicious but quality product for their diners is evident in every dish they create.

In addition to the well-known Mediterranean classic dishes, the eatery also offers their signatures “Bite M.e Burgers” -a listing of their twist on an American classic. These burgers are served alongside traditional fries, or their homemade and well-seasoned sweet potato fries which are the perfect combination of savory and sweet.

Like their burger menu, the kabob selection is also vast. For the seafood lover, the fresh Pacific Northwest Salmon kabob is delicious and charbroiled to perfection, and if it’s beef you’re craving, the Sultani boasts a hearty combination of filet mignon and ground sirloin. There are falafel and vegetable kabobs to satisfy the vegetarians, too. All entrees come served with a generous helping of basmati rice or fries, a roasted tomato, and either a Shirazi or Tabouleh salad.
