Miss A Columnist

Shawna Nadelman is a Gemini vegetarian who enjoys long walks on the beach and curling up on the couch to take in the latest episode of, well anything on Bravo. The staff at Trader Joe’s (the Encinitas location) know her by name. She can spout off almost any celebrity’s dating history, refer to Friends episodes in daily conversation and would give anything to marry a man like Coach Eric Taylor (of Friday Night Lights). She’s never met a ruffle, oversized flower or horizontal stripe that she didn't love and though her entire wardrobe hails from J.Crew and Anthropologie, she'll never buy an item at full price (momma loves a good sale!). Sure, some may argue she's the whitest gal they know, but (surprise!) she's fluent in Spanish and left a part of her heart in Madrid, Spain after a summer abroad in college. Her family is her everything and she certainly does not deserve her friends. Left to her own devices, she could probably finish off a jar of peanut/almond butter in one sitting.

Wildlife Works: A Consumer Powered Conservation Apparel Company

With Christmas just a few weeks away, the search for the perfect gift has become a top priority. But with most of the stores’ merchandise picked over by many a patron in similar shoes, the question remains -where does one turn for a unique last minute gift?

Online, of course! To Wildlife Works, an apparel company whose aim is to create and cultivate innovative and sustainable solutions for wildlife conservation.

Through a program called “Consumer Powered Conservation,” proceeds from Wildlife Works’ array of graphic and basic tees are invested into forest communities and go directly toward wildlife conservation around the globe. Additionally, the company implements sustainability in providing jobs and full health coverage to over 400 local Kenyans with every tee sold.

Speaking of tees, with designs for men, women, and children, there’s something for everyone on your list! Each product is made from 100% organic cotton and is carbon-neutral, as well. Many of the bold colors and prints of the company’s graphic tee collection are inspired by African elements, making them one-of-a-kind and perfect for that savvy fashionista who is always looking to incorporate an original piece into his/her wardrobe. Such inspirations include the beaded jewelry from the Maasi tribe of Southeast Kenya and the intricate embroidery of the tribes of North Africa.

If you think your recipient would rather pay homage to the various species of wildlife that roam the sponsored forest communities, Wildlife Works also offers tops adorned with creatures such as rhinos, giraffes, and elephants like this one recently featured in the November issue of People Magazine’s StyleWatch.
