Urbane Market at the Hyatt on 8th Avenue in Seattle is hosting a series of wine and beer tastings and challenges. Last night, I had the great fortune of attending a wine-tasting competition between a local winery and a French winery at the Urbane Market.
How did the Washington wines fare? My friend and I took turns sampling each of the three varieties of wine: a Brut, a Blanc on Blanc, and a Rose. Although the wines were not paired, it was easy to taste the differences between each of the varieties and the wine representative was extremely knowledgeable about each variety.
We chose different wines, but the Washington State wines, all from Domaine Ste Michelle, did exceptionally well when compared to their French competition from the Nicolas Feuillatte wines, all from the Champagne region of France.
The next wine challenge on December 19 will put Washington up against California with a special appearance from Michael David Winery.
