Obesity is a growing trend in Colorado and LiveWell Colorado is rising to meet the challenge. LiveWell Colorado is hosting a luncheon to highlight the Eatwell@school project. The Eatwell@school project is a partnership between LiveWell and the Denver Public Schools where students learn about healthy cooking and food preparation. This program raises awareness about the importance of healthy eating at school. The winners of this year’s cooking competition, students at the Bruce Randolph School, will be cooking and serving the meal for the luncheon. The students had to prepare a menu on a budget of a dollar per meal and within the guidelines of the new USDA nutritional guidelines. This year’s menu includes chicken wraps, coleslaw, and jalapeno infused crumble.
LiveWell Colorado is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging healthy living and physical activity. As an organization, LiveWell believes in a comprehensive approach to changing the lifestyles of Colorado residents to be more orientated towards healthy living. LiveWell works to inspire and promote a policy that will help Colorado achieve a healthier population. This means LiveWell works to change factors in people’s environments and lifestyles to give them more access to nutritional foods and the opportunity to engage in physical activity. To achieve these goals LiveWell has partnered with such organizations as Kaiser Permanente, the Colorado Health Foundation and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Speaking at the event will be Mayor Michael B. Hancock and LiveWell Colorado Board Member and CEO of Vail Resorts, Rob Katz. The Western Dairy Association, DaVita and the Colorado Trust are just a few of the sponsors for this event. The students have been working hard to prepare a wining meal for the the luncheon. Come to support them and all Coloradans as we strive together to keep our state healthy and vibrant.
