Miss A Columnist

Lindsey Jo Hand realized her love for writing and sharing information at a very young age. Over the years, she has worked as a journalist, a technical writer, and has done some academic writing as well. Lindsey is also a professor of communications for American Military University. During her spare time, she teaches guitar and piano lessons to children, which is one of her greatest joys. She also enjoys volunteering with Hippo Associates or the Southeastern Greyhound Association, making music, exercising, painting, and doing anything outdoors. She also loves spending time with her family, friends, and her dog and two cats.

The Asperger Spirit, Inc.’s 2nd Annual Gala In Atlanta

On December 6, The Asperger Spirit, Inc. will host its 2nd annual benefit gala to raise money for individuals with Aspberger’s Disorder, which is a form of autism. Volunteers are working hard to get ready for the event, which will include performances from the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta Chamber Ensembles and the Conservatory of Dance and Fine Arts dance team. The keynote speaker will be the co-host of Atlanta talk show The Chat Room and Emmy Award winning journalist and author, Kimberley Kennedy.

A number of metro Atlanta companies have also shown their support for the cause, including Chick-fil-A, The Cheesecake Factory, Hansgrohe, Three Ring Media and Yonah Mountain Vineyards. Several celebrities have also donated for the event, including Clay Aiken, Paula Deen, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and Anita Renfroe. The event will begin a 7 p.m. and will be held at The Selig Center. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here.

The Asperger’s Spirit was founded in 2009 and has since been run completely by dedicated volunteers. Carolyn Richardson Atubeh, Founder and Executive Director of the organization said,”During these challenging economic times, we are thankful to have supporters helping to further our mission of providing funding for services for those with Asperger’s.” The Asperger Spirit’s mission is to assist those with Asperger’s Disorder in reaching their God-given potential, by enabling them to obtain comprehensive diagnostic tests, innovative treatment plans, individualized services and specialized support. The Asperger Spirit does this through fundraising, educational opportunities such as lectures, symposia and workshops, and the provision of resources.
