With the holidays coming up, many of us are excited to get into that festive mood and celebrate by attending classic events and theater performances. For those of you who have attended and enjoyed a performance of the  ”The Nutcracker” in the past, you will be intrigued by the new twist on this holiday favorite in Philadelphia. “Nutcracker 1776,” presented by The Rock Company and starring the students of The Rock School for Dance Education, is providing a unique approach to “The Nutcracker,” and is sure to be a new holiday favorite.

On Saturday, December 1, members of The Rock School will hit the stage at the Merriam Theater for two spellbinding performances. “Nutcracker 1776″ tells a unique version of the story of “The Nutcracker” set in Revolutionary-era Philadelphia. Throughout “Nutcracker 1776,” dancers will come across beloved historical characters including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and more. With ballet danced to Tchaikovsky’s score, this new spin on an old favorite is sure to leave audience members enthralled from the time the dancers appear under the lights.

Those who attend this production are sure to be impressed by the true talent shown by The Rock School dancers. The Rock School is the premier dance education school in Philadelphia and combines dance with education to produce well-rounded individuals and exceptional dancers all in one. The Rock School has two locations, Philadelphia and West Chester, and has dancers who come from all over the world to refine their artistry. Upon graduating from The Rock School, dancers go on to perform with companies throughout the United States. You will find at least one dancer from The Rock School in every company throughout the country.

Whether on a date, having a fun girl’s day out or bringing the whole family, the “Nutcracker 1776″ is the performance to attend. If you are unable to make either show at the Merriam Theater on Saturday, December 1, “Nutcracker 1776″ will also be performed at Centennial Hall at the Haverford School on Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9.

TICKETS: Tickets for the shows at the Merriam Theater range in price from $10-$40 and can be purchased online via the Rock School website or Ticket Philadelphia website.
