The 2013 Relay for Life of Mt. Pleasant is hosting an Oyster Roast kick-off party on Saturday, December 1 from noon-5 p.m. at Shem Creek Bar and Grill, located at 508 Mill Street. Featuring great food and drink specials plus live music provided by Cody Walker and Meet the Sky. A $6 donation will be collected at the door and will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life, which takes place in the spring, is an annual event that raises money each year for the American Cancer Society. The majority of the money raised by the local Relay for Life will stay in the Lowcountry.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Wash., ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Relay has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease. Relay is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people across the country each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.
