Since 2006, Gingertown has been bringing together D.C.’s leading architects, designers and architectural firms to give back to the community by creating a sprawling holiday town using classic goodies like Reeses Pieces and candy canes. Hosted by David M. Schwarz Architects, each year features a different master plan and includes everything a miniature city would need: a city hall, library and, of course, a toy store.

Not only a fun way for architects to show off their skills, Gingertown D.C. is also a unique way to benefit the area’s charitable organizations. The handcrafted buildings are donated and put on display at local hospitals, health care facilities and community support organizations to spread some much-needed holiday cheer and hope. This year’s recipients include Children’s National Medical Center, Martha’s Table, My Sister’s Place, Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, So Others Might Eat, The Washington Home and The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing.

And while this year’s participants already include David M. Schwarz Architects, DAVIS Construction, Page Southerland Page and ZGF Architects, there is a huge need for more.
